Q: How long will my pet’s visit at Central Vet Imaging take?
A: 60 to 90 minutes. Most appointments at Central Vet Imaging take 60 to 90 minutes to complete. There are a few minor factors that can affect the duration of the visit. Each patient’s medical condition is different, making the circumstances of each appointment slightly different. A more specific answer can be provided during the scheduling process.
Q: On what days can I schedule a visit?
A: Monday-Friday. Central Vet Imaging is open Monday through Friday with appointments that will range from 9:30am to 4:30pm.
Q: Will I be able to speak directly to Dr. Jones.?
A: Yes. A full consultation with Dr. Jones will take place prior to your pet’s scan. A follow up conversation will occur after the scan to discuss findings and continued treatment plans.
Q: Does my pet need sedation for the scan?
A: It is possible. Some patients will require sedation to complete a scan if they are uncomfortable in the necessary position, painful due to a medical condition, or anxious and restless. A light sedation is used if necessary. Your pet will be awake and ready to return home following the scan. Each patient’s history is reviewed and they are evaluated physically prior to any sedative administration.
Q: Can I drop my pet off for a scan?
A: Not usually. It is generally recommended that the owner or responsible party stay on the premises during the scan in case questions arise or decisions need to be made. If there is a procedure or anesthesia involved with the scan, there may be a reason to leave your pet for additional time. If drop off is needed because of conflicting schedule issues arrangements can be made during the scheduling process.
Q: When can I expect to get results of the scan?
A: Immediately. A written report is provided to you along with a disc of images from the scan. Dr. Jones will explain findings of the scan and discuss the report, follow up, or further treatment needed. Dr. Jones will also contact your Veterinarian to discuss the scan findings, as well as the process for treating your pet. Your regular Veterinarian will get a copy of the report sent immediately following the scan.
Q: Will I need to prepare myself or my pet prior to the scan?
A: Yes. You will need to prepare your pet by fasting him or her prior to the visit. Fasting is necessary for abdominal scans in order to improve visibility. It is also important to fast as preparation for sedation if it is needed. If your pet has any specific preparation requirements they will be recommended during the scheduling process. You may wish to bring a book or wi-fi capable device to occupy your time while the ultrasound is being performed on your pet. Free wi-fi is available in the lobby.
